Week Four 2009 - Jet Kingdom Throne Picks

Week Two Results

A big week for us as we went 4-0 picking perfectly across the board. Even more impressive, we got the Jets vs Titans score off by only two points. A good start and much more to come.

Baltimore Ravens (3-0) at New England Patriots (2-1)

The Ravens are quickly becoming the team to beat in the AFC and taking the spot away from the Patriots. They are playing great offense and defense and even the home crowd at Gillette is going to have a hard time stopping this team. Expect the game to get out of control pretty early and Tom Brady to have trouble against that defense.

Ravens: 31 - Patriots: 20

Buffalo Bills (1-2) at Miami Dolphins (0-3)

From one Chad to another as Chad Pennington is out for the season and in comes rookie Chad Henne for the Dolphins. Dolphins have thirteen more games to see what they have in this kid. The Bills and the MIA Terrel Owens have not been getting it done on offense, but expect that to change this week.

Bills: 23 - Dolphins: 16

New York Jets (3-0) at New Orleans Saints (3-0)

The big match up of the week as two undefeated teams pit the great offense of the Saints against the rising defense of the Jets. The big factor here is the location, away from the help of the Jet fans, will the defense be able to pressure Drew Brees enough to slow down his attack. Expect a great defensive game plan from Rex Ryan and another road win for the Jets.

Keys to the Castle: Get the crowd out of the game early and play lights out special teams with great field position. It might be a slow start but Jay Feeley is going to be busy. A Shonn Greene sighting in the 4th?

Jets: 27 - Saints: 24

Come back next week for a recap of the Jets and to see how we did in our Throne Picks. Go Jets!

BUFFALO @ MIAMI
Originally I liked the Fins to take this one in a low scoring game. But as soon as Pennington went down, they lost much of their ability to grind out long and painfully boring drives, instead they will be looking at a lot of 3 and outs. Additionally, Buffalo's defense has been somewhat respectable this year and should shut down the Fins as they turn into a one dimensional running team. Marshawn Lynch returns this week so the Bills look to have a deadly 1-2 punch with Fred Jackson. That should help Trent Edwards sustain his drives. Coupled with the amount of opportunities his defense will give him, Edwards and the Bills will actually manage to put up some big time points in this game. I like Buffalo in a rout, beating Miami at home by more than two touchdowns.

Bills 32 - Dolphins 10

BALTIMORE @ NEW ENGLAND

I'll take the Ravens in this game. Baltimore's offense has been impressive thusfar and I expect them to keep it up against a depleted New England defense. Brady will put up two touchdowns, but it won't be enough as Baltimore stuffs the run and by the 4th quarter, shuts down the pass as well.

Ravens 24 - Patriots 17

JETS @ NEW ORLEANS

Tough game to call. I've flip flopped a lot on this game. Initially I thought the Jets would squeak out a win. Then when I heard Lito and Strickland were out, I had my doubts and I was about to take New Orleans. However, when I considered who New Orleans has faced this year, their production suddenly did not sound as impressive. They beat the Lions. So what? They beat the Eagles without McNabb aided by several Kolb interceptions. A decent win. Then they beat the Bills. Though the score was lopsided, the score doesn't tell the whole story in this case. For MOST of the game the Bills defense shut down Brees. The Jets defense is far superior and can do better. I can see the Jets limiting Brees to just one passing touchdown. The difficulty here is that the game is in New Orleans, and that might tip the scales in the Saints favor.

JETS 17 - Saints 13

Keys to the Castle:

1) Sanchez doesn't necessarily need a big game: his #1 priority must be to avoid costly penalties and turnovers. I would sign up for 1 TD pass, 0 INT, 0 fumbles in a millisecond.

2) The blitz will get to Brees, but the wounded Jets secondary must consistently lock down the Saints receivers for at least a few seconds in order for it to matter.

MISC: I'm not sold on the Saints defense. I'd like to see a nice DEEP play action pass on the JETS first offensive play. Besides that, let's pound the rock all day.
