Meadowlands Concerns Over New Stadium
"Mayors of the communities around the Meadowlands sports complex said Wednesday they are worried that a new, larger football stadium proposed for the New York Giants and Jets will make traffic worse in the already congested area. Air quality from car pollution was another of the concerns raised at the first public hearing about the new, $1 billion stadium, which is slated to be ready for the 2010 season. Secaucus Mayor Dennis Elwell, representing mayors in the Meadowlands area, suggested that developers should help pay for road improvements around their projects. In the case of the sports complex, he said they should also contribute to a planned rail extension to the stadium."

"REPORTER: The new 84,000 seat state of the art stadium has been hailed as part of a Meadowlands resurgence. But Secaucus Mayor Dennis Elwell told the Meadowlands panel that the plan failed to take into account the additional traffic generated by both the sports complex and Xanadu, a mega retail and entertainment complex planned for next to the new stadium.
