Newsday Article
Newsday published an article today about the new Jets west side stadium saying "the taxpayers will lose" while comparing it to other stadiums in other citys. Mr. Keating did not take into account that this stadium could be used for conventions as well as other smaller venue events which most other city stadiums cannot.
"Taxpayers would be buried by the enormous subsidies. The Jets propose paying $800 million for the stadium itself, but state and city taxpayers would be sacked for $600 million for a retractable roof and a platform on which the stadium would rest over the West Side rail yards. As for the convention center, the hope is a private firm will build a $200-million hotel, while the taxpayers fork over $1.2 billion for the rest of the project. Oh, don't forget the $2.8-billion tab to extend the subway line and other related West Side infrastructure expenditures."
