Draft Day One - Jets Go Defense
The New York Jets didn't just wait around with their picks on day one of the 2007 NFL draft, they completed two trades which got them the #14 and #47 picks.
There is no fun picking out of the top twenty of the NFL Draft so the Jets did a trade in the first round and moved up to pick 14th grabbing a shutdown corner in Darrell Revis. Not done with defense the Jets also traded up in the second round and picked up the big linebacker David Harris.
Darrelle Revis
Revis is a Mangini type of guy. He is a six foot, 197 pound corner from Pittsburgh who also played a lot of other positions. He won the 2006 Jim Thorpe award for the Nations top defense back. He also has skills as a pun returner scoring twice in his career doing it. Revis could help out immediately in a backfield needing some shoring up. Andre Dyson, signed last year, played well but Justin Miller was inconsistent and over committed at times. We expect Darrelle Revis make a positive impact on day one.
David Harris
Not done with defense on the first day the Jets once again trade up to grab David Harris a 6 foot 2 239 pound linebacker from Michigan. A lot of draft experts were surprised Harris was still on the board at 47 but the Jets obviously thought he wouldn't drop much further. He was known in college as an excellent run stopper and should fit very well in the 3-4 defensive system alongside Vilma.
With all the trades of day one there isn't much left for day two as the Jets only have a sixth and seventh round pick left. We are sure they won't go to waste.
