Mark Sanchez - New York Jets #5 Pick

Draft Day One - Mark Sanchez

The Jets clearly were not as happy at the Quarterback position as they let on for the last few months because with one fell swoop they traded away three players (Elam, Coleman, Ratliff) and the second round pick to move up to take Mark Sanchez. The Jets traded the #17 and #52 picks to the Cleveland Browns to go after the guy they wanted all along the crowd erupted in cheers and it was done.

Mark Sanchez, is ranked as a top quarterback in this years draft. He is tall, has good hands and the ability to scramble. He played under the big lights at USC and is probably the most ready to go into a starting position with the New York Jets. Sanchez doesn't have a ton of experience having only played one year, but he has the smarts and physical talents to be an elite player.

For the second year in a row the Jets put a lot of eggs in the basket and go after a quarterback to take them to the Super Bowl. Last year it was Brett Favre from Green Bay a proven, if older, player to rally the fans. This year, under a new head coach, they get a quarterback to build on for years to come. Whether or not Mark Sanchez will be the franchise player they Jets want him to be is up for debate, but the Jets are making splashes and planning for yet another interesting year of football.

Go Jets!
