Super Bowl Sunday Long Beach Style
The residents of Long Beach, NY celebrate Super Bowl Sunday with a plunge into the Ocean celebrating a 10 year tradition.
Look at all those people freezing their butts off.
In Long Beach, NY there are so many things to look forward to on Super Bowl Sunday but one thing above all others is most exciting - the annual Polar Bear Club plunge into the Atlantic Ocean. Every year since 1998 people have been gathering to jump into the Ocean prior to the big game. Why do these people do this you may ask? It is 2-fold - for the absolute thrill and for charity. In 2007 the Long Beach Polar Bear Club raised over $270,000 for the Make A Wish Foundation.
As a community Long Beach comes together to give back and to partake in some good old fashion fun prior to what should be a national holiday, The Super Bowl. This year I was a proud member of the crowd jumping into the water - take a look a the video. How crazy do we look?
