The Thomas Jones Effect
What effect will Thomas Jones have on the Jet's offense?
Thomas Jones is the type of runningback that will fit in perfectly with what the Jet's offense wants to do. He is deceptively strong and is quick enough to hit the hole fast and take it to the house. He is also accustomed to sharing the ball carrying duties which is what he will most likely be asked to do with second year player Leon Washington. With D-Brick and Nick Mangold one year older and wiser there should be more then enough opportunities for Jones to prove his real worth. I believe the thing that he brings to the table most is respectability.
In the '06 season not one team respected the Jets ground game - rightfully so. It wasn't until the last few games that Washington found his stride which bodes well for the upcoming season. This year teams will have to respect the fact that Jones and Washington will run up the field all day long behind the young studs up front. This season teams are going to have to stack the line a little more often allowing Chad to go down the field more often to open receivers Coles and Cotchery.
All in all Jones will have a great impact on the Jet's offense. He should bring the swagger and respectability back to the ground game - something that the Jets have missed the last few seasons without Curtis Martin. Watch for Chad to have one of his best seasons yet coming back with the same coaching staff and core receivers for the first time in his career with a legit weapon in the backfield to rely on.
