Thoughts on the moves?

Posted by Justin at March 02. 2008
I wrote this column re: the recent flurry of activity by the Jets front office: http://www.jetkingdom.com/fans/justedel/busydaytrades/ I think after all was said and done they made some really good moves all of which made the team better at the end of the day. Vilma was expendable because of Harris; and Jenkins and Faneca fill the largest voids on the team. Nice job on paper - lets see how it pans out in the field.

Great pickups! Plus J MacDroppins is gone! The question is: why aren't Barrett and Sutton gone as well?

Let's keep the pressure on..

DRob for pick(s). Chad for a pick. Sign a CB, RT or an OLB, then we may have room to draft a receiver or two. If Coles is dealt, receiver priority should be even higher in the draft. I really would prefer to keep LC around though, if cash doesn't become an issue. If you addd a tall/speedy receiver to that core, (along with the improved rushing game and protection for the pass) and this offense will be halfway decent next year.

WE WANT A PODCAST SOON! And when I say we, I mean just me really... but pleaaaase!!

Obviously we aren't done and great call with dropping J-Mac - that is such an intended pun. Agree we also need to drop Barrett and Sutton but until a suitable replacement is identified they are necessary evils. Chad will probably stick around to be a mentor like figure to Kellen and I think he will be good at it. Also, he will keep the pressure on Kellen to play well otherwise Chad can come in and play. Remember, this isn't exactly Favre we are talking about here, Kellen is bound to miss a game and I feel comfy knowing Chad is there to back him up. Robertson needs to go - I would try to snag a 2nd rounder for him or at least 2 second day picks. You can always turn that into a guy like what Fabini and Jason Ferguson were (surely enough Ferguson ended up in Miami with Parcells - guarantee they stop the run this season) - steady players picked late. As for a podcast, next week - we promise...all of this must be analyzed.

Funny all this money to replace a guy who wanted just one more million dollars. It is good stuff and nice to know that they saw the running and passing game just turn to hell with no offensive line. It is almost like they are admitting they made the mistake. Now, can they get these guys together, form a solid unit, bolster (or lessen) D'bricks job and produce a solid running game that can get 1 yard in 2 tries? If so, we are back to 10-6 or better. Jake

Oh yeah, and a new podcast coming soon. Next week for sure to round up all the off season moves. Jake

Indeed they did spend a bunch of money to replace Kendall but Faneca is a 7 time pro-bowler in his 10 seasons in the league and at 31 years old he has a solid 5 more years ahead of him. I love the moves all around - the big guys in the middle win games in the end.

It is an interesting tactic, since they were so tight with money last year. I like the strategy the way it leads up to the draft, leaving fewer and fewer needs and presenting more wants. Jake
