Giff Wants Stadium Vote
http://www.nydailynews.com/news/local/story/275146p-235598c.html Giff joins call for vote on stadium City Council Speaker Gifford Miller became the latest Democratic mayoral hopeful yesterday to call on Mayor Bloomberg to hold a referendum on the proposed $1.4 billion West Side stadium. "The public should have a say in how their money is spent," Miller said. "We should trust New Yorkers to have the right priorities, not cut them out of such a serious decision." Bloomberg has proposed spending $600 million in city and state money on the project. The Jets will spend $800 million. Democratic mayoral rival Fernando Ferrer called for the referendum over the weekend. A Ferrer spokeswoman said the former Bronx borough president was "delighted that Gifford Miller has joined him in his call for a referendum." Jennifer Falk, a Bloomberg spokeswoman, pointed out that Cablevision, a strong opponent of the stadium, called for a referendum months before Miller. "Sounds like Gifford has become a pawn of Cablevision, the selfish monopoly which devised this scam in the first place," she said.
