JETS: WE WON'T LAND IN QNS.

March 3, 2005 -- The Jets say Queens can take a hike.
Team President Jay Cross yesterday "unequivocally" ruled out any possibility of building a stadium in Queens — the day after Mayor Bloomberg said he would "consider" the option if plans don't work out on Manhattan's West Side.
"To be unequivocally clear: The New York Jets have no intention of building a stadium anywhere but over the [West Side] rail yards," Cross said of the team's plan to build a $1.7 billion stadium and convention center in Manhattan.
"We believe such a facility will best serve the interests of all New Yorkers and our team, and we have long since ruled out any other location."
Discussion of an alternative site for the Jets and an Olympic stadium flared this week after Cross called a move to Queens "theoretically" possible, followed by Bloomberg telling a meeting of business executives on Tuesday, "We will consider it."
Aides to the mayor yesterday insisted he has never seen Queens as an alternative for the Olympics or the Jets, and Bloomberg himself cited a number of reasons why it doesn't make sense.
But Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver yesterday called Bloomberg's remarks about considering a stadium in Queens "encouraging."
Silver said he likes the idea of an Olympic stadium in Queens instead of on the West Side, where it would anchor a new business district that he says would compete with lower Manhattan.
Silver also said he sees no hurry to approve a stadium in either location before the International Olympic Committee meets in July to pick a city to host the 2012 Games, taking the same position held by Senate Majority Leader Joseph Bruno.
